AWAKEN | DAY 2
“You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea.”EXODUS 20:4
There is plenty vying for our attention, affection and time. Our sports teams, our kids, others’ approval, our job, our cell phone, our family name, our money, our education, food, and on and on … This is just a partial list of what can become idols in our lives.
Anyone or anything that we love and honor above God drives a wedge between us and Him. So, how do we know if we have idols? There are many ways to determine idolatry in our lives, but a key question to ask is “Do I seek contentment in ______ more than in my knowledge, understanding and relationship with Christ?” If there is anything you can write in the blank, then it may be time to ask God to remove the small gods from your life.
Jesus, I want you to be the real Lord of my life — no counterfeits for me! Show me anything or anyone standing between You and me. Help me to be honest and courageous enough to acknowledge my idols and remove their authority from my life.
